Motorcycle production exceeds 1 million units in 2021

The production of motorcycles totaled 1,004,983 units from January to October, which represents a growth of 28.1% compared to the same period last year, when 784,421 units were produced.

In October, 108,456 motorcycles came off the assembly lines, slightly less than the 108,931 units produced in the previous month. In relation to October 2020, there was an increase of 19.3%.

The data were released this Wednesday (17) by the Brazilian Association of Manufacturers of Motorcycles, Mopeds, Scooters, Bicycles and Similar (Abraciclo).

In the evaluation of the organization’s president, Marcos Fermanian, the sector maintains a heated production pace, with the motorcycle industry showing a positive evolution in its production curve throughout this year.

“This number is even more significant when we analyze the context of the year, which began with a very difficult first two months due to the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in Manaus, which affected around 100,000 units. Since then, manufacturers have imposed an intense pace on production to meet demand,” he said.

heated demand

For the coming months, Fermanian believes that demand should remain high, with the trend that demand for motorcycles remains heated due to consecutive increases in fuel prices. However, he warned of instabilities in the macroeconomic scenario.

“Furthermore, the vehicle is a working tool for those who work in delivery services and an option for safe travel to avoid crowding of public transport. We are attentive to the rise in interest rates, the level of employment and other measures that may negatively impact the demand for motorcycles,” he explained.

According to the monthly balance, from January to October 937,971 motorcycles were licensed, 29% more than in the same period in 2020 (726,973 units).

Licenses in October totaled 97 thousand units. The volume is 10.9% lower than that registered in September (108,816 motorcycles) and 0.9% higher compared to the 96,114 motorcycles registered in the same month last year.

Scooter was the category that registered the highest percentage increase in the volume of licenses compared to the first ten months of last year, with 88,340 licensed units, an increase of 46.9% over 2020.

In absolute numbers, the category with the highest volume of registrations in the year to date was Street. 455,986 units were licensed, an increase of 25.2% compared to the same period in 2020 (364,104 motorcycles).

“The profile of the Scooter buyer is one who wants a vehicle that is easier to drive, agile in traffic and economical. This practicality has been conquering the Brazilian consumer”, analyzed the president of Abraciclo.

Exports

In the accumulated result for the year, 46,947 motorcycles were exported, an increase of 79.8% compared to the 26,109 units shipped in the same period of 2020.

According to data from the foreign trade statistics portal Comex Stat, which registers total shipments for each month, analyzed by Abraciclo, the main markets were Argentina, Colombia and the United States.

For the Argentine market, 13,423 motorcycles were shipped, which represents 28% of the total exported volume. Exports to Colombia totaled 10,565 units (22% of the total exported). The United States received 10,501 motorcycles (21.9%).
