Mountain of money: PF arrests man with almost R$2 million, suspected of electoral crime

The Federal Police (PF) arrested him red-handed a man with R$1,920,000.00 in cash. The case happened this Wednesday (2) in a parking lot in the center of Duque de Caxias, in Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro.

According to the PF, the documents seized and the information obtained from the suspect indicate that the money would be used for electoral corruption purposes .

According to the police, an inquiry will be launched to further the investigation. The man must answer for the crimes of electoral corruption and money laundering.

The suspect, along with the seized money and documents, was taken to the PF Regional Superintendence in Rio de Janeiro.

The action was led by the PF Combating Crimes Group (GET) in Rio de Janeiro, with the support of the Institutional Defense Police Station (DELINST) and the Ready Intervention Group (GPI).


Rio leads electoral surveys

The Federal Police (PF) opened 596 investigations to investigate electoral crimes in the 2024 campaign. The majority of cases investigate the occurrence of slush funds. This crime appears in 143 investigations opened since August 16. The date marked the beginning of the electoral campaign.

Rio de Janeiro leads in the number of investigations opened by the PF: there are 126.

In the state, the crime that appears most in investigations is the appropriation of resources intended for electoral financing.

According to the Electoral Code, the crime is committed when the candidate or financial administrator appropriates goods, resources or values ​​intended for electoral financing, for their own benefit or that of another person.

The other states with the most investigations initiated by the PF are: Paraná (75), São Paulo (63), Ceará (39) and Federal District (25).
