Lekkas for earthquake in Turkey: Unfortunately we have to choose who to save

Efthymios Lekkas is in Turkey and coordinates the efforts of the Greek EMAK who assists in the rescue efforts and emphasized that in some cases they will have to choose which people to save from the debris caused by the earthquake.
Speaking to ERT, he said that “we have 10 fronts to investigate, 10 cases to make infiltrations. We do business where it is easier and where the chances of the business having a successful outcome are greater. Always through an evaluation of the information”.

“Unfortunately in all the cases I have participated in missions around the world, the global rescue community unfortunately has to choose who to save. Not everyone can be saved at the same time,” he then added.

He also emphasized that “it is next in the first hours after such a great disaster to encounter chaos, as the state cannot control it. There are too many fronts. There are thousands of collapses. After the first 24 hours, the situation has started and is being controlled,” he informed.
