Movements indicate reorganization of Russian army, says expert

The Russian army moves on Tuesday (1st), with more attacks in the second largest city in UkraineKharkhiv, and directing troops to the capital, Kievindicates a reorganization by the president of the RussiaVladimir Putin, according to Danielle Ayres, professor at UFSC.

In an interview with CNN she says that initially the army faced setbacks such as lack of fuel, logistical difficulties and an apparent inability to command and control effectively among troops. “In the first two days, they had to reorganize all their dynamics of confronting the Ukrainian resistance”.

“It seems that this reorganization has already taken place, and from the strategy as well, we have seen this in today’s attacks, increasing the degree of attacks in Kharkhiv, mainly, but we have news that the Russian soldiers themselves, very young, did not even know they were going to Ukraine to fight, this obviously weakens it, but we don’t know to what extent this information is totally real”, he says.

for Ayres, Putin it has been fickle about its purpose in the conflict, alternating between annexing the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, demilitarizing the country, or conquering the capital, Kiev, and all of Ukraine.

She assesses that “the tendency is for him to put a pro-Russian government in place of Zelensky that it can reorganize the internal order of Ukraine and proceed to have a withdrawal of Russian troops, at least in the capital, Kiev, and from Kharkhiv”.

But recent moves, with an attacking effort in eastern Ukraine, seem to indicate, according to the professor, that the Russians are planning to surround Ukrainian soldiers in Donbaspointing to the goal of “annexing this region”.
