THE Meta company — owner of Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp — announced the development of a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool for media generation, Movie Gen.
Still being tested, the launch date has not been announced, but the technology is expected to be made available to users in 2025.
This is the brand’s third feature, preceded by Make-A-Scene and Llama Image, and promises advances in image creation, existing video editing and soundtrack generation functionalities.
Combining licensed and publicly available data, Movie Gen uses simple text input to create videos, for example using the faces of known people.
When creating audiovisual materials, Meta promises the generation of videos of up to 16 seconds at a rate of 16 frames per second. To do this, 30 billion parameters are used — numerical values that influence the behavior of artificial intelligence.
According to an article released by the company, the tool is capable of “understanding the movement of objects, interactions between subject and object and camera movement, in addition to learning plausible movements for a wide variety of concepts.”
To create a clip, the user can, for example, send a photo of a person to the AI and it will come to life in the animation created by Movie Gen.

Furthermore, the tool promises advanced image editing functionality, allowing you to add, remove or replace elements and make changes to the background or style.
Finally, Meta’s new AI will provide audio generation capabilities. The user will then be able to obtain high quality tracks of up to 45 seconds from videos and text commands.
This content can also be synchronized with videos, serving as ambient sounds, sound effects and background music.
Meta has not announced the expected launch date for its new media generation functionality, but the expectation is that it will reach users in 2025.
