Advancement of variants warns of booster role of vaccines

The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that the BA.5 subvariant of Ômicron is expected to become the predominant version of the Covid-19 virus in the Americas within the next few weeks.

The strain has already been detected in 22 countries in the region and is also spreading across Europe and Asia.

BA.5 is considered a more contagious and vaccine-resistant subvariant and is a cause for concern, as the immunization rate in the world has slowly advanced and the numbers of cases and deaths have risen again.

In Brazil, among the obstacles to vaccination are the reduced adherence among children aged 5 to 11 years and the slow pace of application of booster doses, important to increase protection against the virus.

This Wednesday (20), the city of São Paulo begins the vaccination against Covid-19 of children aged 3 to 4 years with comorbidities, with disabilities or indigenous people.
