Moving average of Covid-19 deaths reaches 783, highest since August 20

Brazil recorded 26,599,593 cases of Covid-19 and 632,621 deaths from the disease in the last 24 hours. The numbers were released by the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) this Thursday (7).

As a result, there was an increase in the moving average of deaths, which reached 783 – the highest since August 20, 2021, when it stood at 807.

On the other hand, the moving average of cases had a small drop and stands at 167,550, the lowest since January 26, 2022, when it was at 159,877.

Moving average is a metric that takes into account the average of numbers recorded over the last seven days. It is used to correct distortions caused by underreporting on weekends.

With this, the country accumulates 26,599,593 cases of Covid-19 and 632,621 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Children and adolescents hospitalized with Acute Respiratory Syndrome caused by Covid-19 tripled earlier this year compared to the same period in 2021.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, for the month of January, hospitalizations jumped from 697 to 2,122, in the range between zero and 19 years. The deaths almost doubled, from 49 to 86. Read more.

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, said this Monday (7) that the ministry will distribute sufficient doses to vaccinate all children between 5 and 11 years of age against Covid-19 by February 15. Read more.
