Moving average of Covid cases doubles in one month

Brazil recorded 126 deaths and 37,805 cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, according to data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), released this Thursday (2).

The moving average of cases, up, stood at 31,044 on Thursday. That number is twice as high as it was a month ago. On May 2, the average stood at 15,011.

The rise in Covid cases made governments and prefectures recommend the use of a mask in closed places again.

However, the moving average of deaths does not reflect the increase in infections. This Thursday, the indicator stood at 107. Yesterday the index was 109.

The moving average considers the variation of contamination and deaths recorded in the last seven days, in addition to allowing the monitoring of the pandemic indicators without possible distortions caused by possible underreporting on weekends.

With the update, the country has a total of 31,097,822 cases and 666,930 victims of the disease since the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020.
