Moving average of Covid deaths stays above 200 for the second day in a row

The moving average of deaths from Covid-19, which considers data from the last seven days, is above 200 for the second consecutive day, according to data from the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass), released this Wednesday (29).

Today the indicator was 228. Yesterday the number was 208.

The average that considers the cases is also on the rise. This Tuesday the indicator stood at 56,021. On Tuesday (28) the number was 55,447.

In the last 24 hours, the country recorded 277 new deaths and 75,925 Covid infections.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Conass has recorded 32,282,879 infections and 671,125 victims of the disease throughout Brazil.

Two children die a day from Covid-19 in Brazil

Covid-19 has killed two children under the age of five in Brazil per day since the beginning of the pandemic. In all, 1,439 children in this age group died from the disease in the first two years of the pandemic in the country.

This is what a survey carried out by Observa Infância in partnership with Fiocruz shows, based on data collected in the Mortality Information System (SIM) of the Ministry of Health.

In 2020, there were 599 deaths of children up to five years old as a result of the disease. In 2021, when the lethality of the disease increased across the population, the number of child victims jumped to 840.

Preliminary data released by the Epidemiological Bulletin of the Ministry of Health indicate that the average of two daily deaths remains this year. Between January and June 13, 2022, Brazil recorded a total of 291 deaths among children under 5 years old.
