The Public Ministry arrested four people from a company suspected of adulterating dairy products, in the municipality of Taquara, located approximately 74 kilometers from the capital Porto Alegre, this Wednesday (11).
The operation called “Compensated Milk 13” identified the production of dairy products with the addition of caustic soda and other products harmful to health, such as hydrogen peroxide, in addition to “undefined hairs” and dirty spots inside the packaging.
According to the MP, among those arrested are the company’s chemist, the industry’s co-owner and two managers.
The Court has not yet authorized the disclosure of the brands, but the company had already been the target of the fifth phase of the same operation launched in 2014, when the addition of caustic soda, sodium bicarbonate and hydrogen peroxide to the industry’s products was discovered.
The operation was carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, State Revenue, State Foundation for Environmental Protection, São Paulo Public Ministry and the Civil Police Consumer Division.
Taquara industry products are distributed throughout Brazil and even Venezuela.
The MP highlighted that, although initial analyzes have detected substances harmful to human health and other dirt or undefined hair, with the improvement of the formula, more detailed tests are awaited to determine exactly what is contaminated.
Four preventive arrest warrants and 16 search and seizure warrants were served by 100 agents in companies and residences in Taquara, Parobé, Três Coroas, Imbé and the capital of São Paulo.
Also participating in the operation were prosecutors André Dal Molin, coordinator of the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (GAECO) in the State, Manoel Antunes, also from GAECO, in addition to the support of prosecutor João Paulo Gabriel de Souza, from GAECO/ MPSP.
According to prosecutor Mauro Rockenbach, from the Porto Alegre Specialized Criminal Justice Prosecutor’s Office, after 2017, after the “Leite Compen$ado 12” operation, the agency received only two more complaints about adulteration in milk, but both involving a small amount of water addition to the product, which did not result in a new phase of the operation.
