The Public Ministry of São Paulo called for the arrest of military police officer Vinicius de Lima Britto, who executed Gabriel Renan da Silva Soares behind his back on November 3rd, in São Paulo.
THE CNN had access to the document filed on Wednesday night (4) by prosecutor Rodolfo Justino Morais, from the 3rd Jury Prosecutor’s Office of São Paulo. In the text, Morais requests preventive detention, alleging that the PM committed qualified homicide, in addition to using a company weapon, distorting the public function.
The prosecutor also highlighted that Gabriel is not the accused’s first homicide victim. “This is not the first case of death caused by the accused. In just 10 months of police activity, he has already been involved in three other deaths in similar circumstances, which demonstrates his high level of danger and the concrete risk that his freedom poses to society”, says an excerpt from the request.
One of the cases, published by CNN happened in December last year, when the PM was involved in an incident with a fatal outcome in São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo.
The prosecutor also highlights in his request that Britto could cause “fear to witnesses” if he remains free.

Failing psychological test
Britto failed a psychological exam when trying to join the Military Police for the first time. The assessment, carried out during a public competition for 2nd class soldier, in 2021, highlighted problems with sociability and lack of emotional control.
The police officer managed to join the force in the same year, after passing a second competition.
Specialists responsible for the rejection pointed out difficulties in sociability and instability in interpersonal relationships. “Such characteristics contraindicate the candidate for the position, as they may compromise their ability to perceive and react appropriately to the demands of the role”, states an excerpt from the report.
