MP-RJ asks that factory that caught fire is interdicted

The Public Prosecution Service of Rio de Janeiro asked on Monday (10) that the oil factory that caught fire last Saturday (8), on the island of Governador, North Zone, is temporarily interdicted .

In addition to the ban, the MP has established a civil inquiry to investigate the causes and consequences of the fire, as well as any responsibilities for the incident.

In a statement, the agency reported that preliminary reports indicate that the incident may have caused environmental damage to Guanabara Bay the use of containment barriers is required to prevent the dispersal of oily waste in the sea.

“Information on the administrative measures adopted due to the fire, Inea (State Environmental Institute) and the State Secretariat of Civil Defense, and the company Cosan Lubricants and Specialties SA was notified,” the note says.
