MPF asks the Union to be ordered to repair families of victims of Covid-19

The Federal Public Ministry presented, this Wednesday (15), a public civil action for the Union to be ordered to repair the losses of the families and victims of Covid-19. The MPF asks for compensation for moral and material damages, as well as for the Union to map and formulate public policy to assist “Covid Longa”.

In the action, the MPF asks that the families of those killed by Covid-19 be compensated for at least R$ 100,000, and the families of survivors with serious/persistent sequelae, for R$ 50,000.

In addition to this indemnity, the prosecutors also ask for the creation of a fund worth R$ 1 billion as a form of reparation for collective moral damage, to be applied obligatorily in actions, programs or projects for scientific development. The value of the action was estimated at R$ 62.5 billion.

The agency also requests the “express statement of apology from the Brazilian government to the victims’ families, in addition to the accountability of the Union for the acts committed, intentionally and guiltily, by several federal public agents, in the conduct of the coronavirus pandemic”, highlights the document, signed by five attorneys of the Republic.

“The responsibility of the Union does not lie directly on the lives and health lost, but on the chance that these individuals would not become infected and, therefore, not suffer the harm resulting from the disease”, highlight the prosecutors.

The case is at the 20th Federal Civil Court of Justice of the Federal District.
