In a letter sent last Tuesday (10) to lawyer Alan Campos Elias Thomaz, representative of Telegram in Brazil, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in São Paulo charged the messaging app with a balance sheet on measures taken to combat disinformation. on the platform.
The prosecution ordered the submission of results regarding the removal of channels, groups and posts, as well as the temporary suspension of channels and groups and the banning or temporary suspension of users; the explanation of which violations of terms provoked the measures and if such decisions were restricted to the 100 most popular Brazilian channels in the
telegram.
The official letter determines that “non-compliance with the request on screen may constitute a crime of disobedience, typified in art. 10 of Law No. 7,347/1985”. The platform has 15 days to fulfill requests.
On April 7, a few days after the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes revoked his decision to block the application, Telegram provided a request for information.
In the inquiry on the 10th, the prosecutor of the Republic Yuri Corrêa da Luz determined that “the platform is once again urged to provide information, complementary to that initially provided, in order to, a month later, indicate in detail the results of the announced proactive content moderation action, which would have been implemented from the first quarter of this year in Brazil“.
