An investigation has been opened by the Labor Prosecutor’s Office (MPT) to determine what caused the death of Alan Alves Mamona, 41. He suffered a work accident at a gold mine in the municipality of Pindobaçu, in northern Bahia. The city is known as the land of emeralds.
According to a note published by the MPT, the victim was injured after falling into one of the emerald mines in Serra da Carnaíba.
An autopsy report on the body was issued, but there is still no information as to whether he was employed by a miner who works there. The burial took place on Saturday morning (29).
In a note sent to CNN the Civil Police of Bahia said it had registered the occurrence and begun investigating the case. The reports should indicate the cause of the accident.
Through social media, the Bahia Mineral Cooperative reported that it received the news with sadness and decreed the cancellation of the business hours last Friday (28).
The entity also wished that “family and friends find enough strength to overcome this moment of irreparable pain”.
