Mr. Konstantinopoulos: The investigative committee will also investigate the use of the Predator in Greece

The issue of refugees in Evros, as well as that of telephone surveillance, were the main topics of the interview given to the ANT1 television station by the deputy speaker of the Parliament Odysseas Konstantinopoulos.

Starting from the issue of refugees – based on the relevant information from PASOK-Movement for Change – Mr. Konstantinopoulos underlined that “when there is a dead child we must respect him, our words and our actions must be commensurate with the tragedy “New Democracy cannot deal with the matter lightly,” he recommended and countered that PASOK-Movement of Change is not in a hurry to make analyzes and propagate, as he said, fake news of either one or the other side.

“We want to believe that the Greek Armed Forces are doing everything they can to defend Greek interests and they need our trust to do their job,” he also said, adding at the same time that “in any case, respect for the human rights of refugees and immigrants. We want to operate responsibly and institutionally, that’s why we waited and did not rush to position ourselves on the matter. We will ask a relevant question in the Parliament, so that the competent minister can answer us.”

“While”, he added, “once again we have to ask ourselves what is happening to Europe and the distribution of refugees on its territory, as Greece is burdened. We know that for the government, disinformation is a “game” anymore but this it is a national issue, it needs attention and responsibility – and we, as PASOK-Movement for Change, tried to deal with it in exactly the same way”.

On the issue of phone surveillance, the deputy speaker of the Parliament accused the government that “even today it passes the responsibility for the surveillance to Mr. Androulakis. It is not possible to pass the responsibility to the victim. The prime minister has accepted that the EYP was monitoring Mr. Androulakis and the EYP, as we all know, has been placed under the authority of the prime minister himself”.

At the same time, he added, “with the monitoring of Mr. Androulakis by the EYP, an attempt was made to entrap him through the predator system, a malicious software that robots the mobile phone by intercepting data and removing privacy. It cannot be a mere coincidence that the EYP and the predator acted simultaneously. When the infection of Mr. Androulakis’s mobile phone through the predator was not achieved, then the monitoring by the EYP was extended,” he also concluded.

And, in the political “by the way”, “the surveillance scandal is a matter of democracy because it does not only concern the president of PASOK, it concerns journalists, public officials and every individual citizen. The questions that have arisen are serious and their answers are not it is possible to give them privately, because Mr. Androulakis is a candidate for prime minister of the country, the Greek government must explain publicly the reason they decided to monitor him, if he is an agent as they tried to imply at the beginning, the Greek people must know. In addition, in the investigation committee that is expected, all the parameters that have led to the availability and use of the predator – which is illegal in Greece – must be investigated for the surveillance”.
