Commitment to support households and small and medium-sized businesses while the energy crisis lasts by K. Skrekas, who, in the shadow of RAE’s announcement about the phenomena of misleading reports-advertisements by suppliers, warned that the state’s pelecys will be heavy in phenomena of unfair practices.
Speaking to SKAI, the Minister of Environment and Energy noted that for August alone, “subsidies amounting to 1.136 billion euros have been announced to support households and small and medium-sized businesses. This will continue as long as the energy crisis lasts.”
He even emphasized that “our main priority is to keep bills at affordable levels through the mechanism of imposing a ceiling on the compensation of power generation companies and an indirect ceiling on retail, where we absorb 90% of the price increases”.
At the same time, he sent the message that “we are not going to allow the phenomena of unfair commercial practices and circumvention of the legislative framework we voted for consumer protection”.
“We saw from a few suppliers changing the fixed charges, and increasing them unthinkably, we passed a provision with a ceiling of up to 5 euros per month for the fixed charges. We will not allow phenomena of profiteering and misleading consumers, we will protect consumers, we will not tolerate abusive behavior from anyone, the burden will be heavy,” he said characteristically.
He also noted that suppliers should clearly inform their consumers about the price of the electricity they sell, and “we announce every month the subsidies… the consumer will know how much he is buying electricity”.
Mr. Skrekas referred to the provision of the law that was passed and which allows the consumer to change provider “without penalty, without any compensation, he will of course have to pay his previous bill”.
Finally, he reminded that the readjustment clause is abolished for at least one year and suppliers must inform their consumers of the next month’s prices. “The consumer can compare prices and choose which supplier is the most competitive,” said Mr. Skrekas.
