Mr. Skrekas in Capital.gr: We will continue to support households, businesses – Ruthless with the obscene profit in the stream

By Haris Fludopoulos

The Minister of Environment and Energy, K. Skrekas, sends a double message for the continuation of subsidies for as long as necessary, but also for strict controls for possible profiteering in the market, with his statements in Capital.gr.

More specifically, Mr. Skrekas appears determined to be relentless in potential violations of the law by supply companies.

“In the government’s effort to spread a safety net for households and businesses in the face of an unprecedented and explosive energy crisis, we will not allow anyone to make a profit” emphasizes Mr. Skrekas and adds:

“We have taken all the necessary measures through the new operating mechanism of the electricity market, the suspension of the adjustment clause in the electricity bills, the monthly subsidies that cover the largest percentage of the increases and through the interventions to ensure the adequacy of supply, that Greece will stand up once more against the imported energy crisis”.

It is recalled that yesterday the Energy Regulatory Authority warned supply companies to stop misleadingly using the subsidy of 0.337 euros/MWh given by the state, implying that it is part of their own discount policy.

RAE asked the companies to correct their communication campaigns, otherwise it will proceed to publicize the names of the companies operating in a misleading way.

At the same time, all companies complied with the legislation submitted by the Ministry of Energy, which set a ceiling of 5 euros for the monthly fixed charge in the electricity programs of the providers.

After the intervention of the Ministry of Finance, in fact, several companies proceeded to change the competitive charge they had announced for the month of August.

However, in addition to the interventions to safeguard consumers in the electricity market, Mr. Skrekas sends a message of continuation of subsidies for as long as necessary.

“It is a commitment of the government and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis himself that we will stand by households and businesses for as long as this unprecedented situation lasts,” says Mr. Skrekas.

It is recalled that the government announced subsidies totaling 1.136 billion euros for the month of August alone in order to cover 90% of the increase in electricity for all consumers, while for individual categories such as CTO beneficiaries the coverage reaches 100%.

According to the estimates for the fluctuation of wholesale electricity prices, but also based on the course of natural gas prices, it is estimated that probably for the month of September the amount of the subsidy will need to be increased even more in order to cover consumers from the greater percentage of increases.
