Mr. Wong: modern Asian cuisine in a trendy setting in Itaim

The facade doesn’t attract much attention. In fact, anyone who passes by, doesn’t even realize that, in the large property, which includes another Italian restaurant on the rooftop and a nightclub on the ground floor, there is an excellent option for lovers of asian cuisine .

It is necessary to take a modern elevator – the “Instagrammable” type – to reach the salon, as photogenic as it is, from the Mr. Wong .

Upon entering, an imposing bar and a huge work on the wall, called “A Criador de Tigres”, created by Maria Fernanda Filardi, welcome you.

The work depicts a geisha and is made with a traditional art in China, in which 14,000 nails and 12 km of thread were used for the elaboration.

At the bar, traditional and signature drinks are available in the menu prepared by Matheus Cunha which includes excellent creations inspired by teas, such as Ching, which is sparkling, refreshing and fruity, tankray gin infused with lung ching tea, Sicilian lemon and ginger citrus soda (R$42).

The hot kitchen is led by the chef Victor Wong known for its laid-back, gyoza-focused restaurant panda Ya in Pinheiros.

In both houses, the chef brings a lot of what he learned from his family, of Chinese descent, but at Mr. Wong also includes dishes with Japanese and Thai influences. As Victor likes to talk, “the house is not chinese, but asian fusion”.

The menu is extensive and great to share with everyone at the table.

For starters, unmissable starters such as shrimp toast, loaf of bread stuffed with shrimp cut on the tip of a knife and grilled to a crispy point with Japanese mayonnaise (R$ 45); eggplant in miso (R$ 40); chicken satay with peanut sauce (R$38, two units) and shredded beef dumpling seasoned with five spices au ju (R$40, three units).

Among the salads and noodles, there are many mouthwatering options, including the caesar schega, with chicken satay with peanut sauce and fried shiso (R$48); cold beef salad with vegetables and peanut sauce (R$48); the chicken pad thai with tofu (R$ 62); and Mrs. Wong Salad with Fried Noodles, Mixed Greens, Avocado, Cherry Tomatoes and Mr. Wong (BRL 48).

Among the main dishes, it is worth trying the mongolian beef, flank steak marinated in a sauce based on sesame oil, soy sauce, ginger and sugar, served with rice and sautéed vegetables (R$ 68); the lemon breaded chicken with green beans and white rice (R$ 65); the shrimp and squid wok with sautéed vegetables (R$90); and Mr. Wong Fish, in which the fish is roasted in miso and comes with vegetables and white rice (R$75).

For those who are willing to japanese cuisine, O sushi bar led by the chef Nando Caliendo (formerly Tessen, Dô Culinaria Japonesa, Imakay) is also available, with tasty items such as crispy rice, based on fried sushi rice and finished with fish tartar (salmon, tuna or white fish – R$ 50); the spicy ebi uramaki (R$79); and the scallop sashimi with pesto sauce (R$120).

During the week, a hearty executive lunch menu with starter and main course, in two versions: Chinese menu (R$ 53) and Japanese menu (R$ 69). The customer can choose from a few options of dishes, such as mushroom bao, duck spring roll, vegetarian dumpling and Mrs. Wong starter in the Chinese version or temaki, crispy rice or salmon carpaccio or white fish in the Japanese version.

Among the main ones on the executive menu, chirashi or a beautiful combination of sashimi sushi or grilled filet mignon with Asian mushroom sauce vegetable fried rice, chicken pad thai, grilled chicken breast in green curry sauce with vegetable fried rice are some of the options.

For dessert, the highlight is the chocolate mousse with caramelized banana ice cream and peanut butter praline (R$30).
