As the name suggests, the lens is based on the Sonnar optical scheme. It includes five elements in four groups. All elements have a multi-layer coating, which made it possible to obtain a light transmission of 97%. The 14-blade aperture made by Otto Niemann can take f/1.3-f/16. Aperture change and focus are done manually. The minimum focusing distance is 80 cm.
