The mayor of the municipality of Carlinda-MT, Carmelinda Leal Martines Coelho (União Brasil), presented this Tuesday (3) to the City Council a letter in which she resigns from her position.
The justification used to abdicate the post, according to the document, was the return of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) to the Presidency of the Republic.
“My political convictions put me against the grain of the Administration that begins on 01/01/2023, by the new President of the Republic, and, therefore, I do not have the strength to continue giving the best of myself in front of the Municipal Executive Branch,” said the mayor.
“My struggles, tireless, lasting and victorious, could become painful and endowed with harmful consequences for the entire population, precisely because of the misalignment I have with the new President. In this way, with the same lucidity that I ran for mayor 02 (twice) times, I make the decision to leave power and I do it with peace of mind”, he added.
According to the City Council, there was agreement for the acting mayor to remain in office until January 31, when she will be replaced by her deputy, Pastor Fernando Ribeiro (PSC).
