O MTV Europe Music Awards, which was supposed to take place in Paris, at Paris Nord Villepinte, on November 5th, was canceled this Thursday (19th), a few weeks before the awards ceremony.
According to the statement released on the social network X, formerly Twitter, the event will not be held due to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. However, voting will continue and the winners will receive their prizes. Furthermore, the next edition should only take place a year from now, in 2024.
Voting is continuing and the winning artists will receive their MTV EMA Awards.
We look forward to hosting the MTV EMAs again in November of 2024.

“Given the volatility of global events, we have decided not to move forward with the 2023 MTV EMAs out of caution for the thousands of staff, team members, artists, fans and partners who travel from all corners of the world to bring the show to the awards show.
The MTV EMAs are an annual celebration of global music. As we watch the devastating events in Israel and Gaza continue to unfold, this does not seem like a time for global celebration. With thousands of lives already lost, it is a time of mourning.
We look forward to hosting the MTV EMAs again in November 2024.”
Brazilians at MTV EMA
At the beginning of September, the list of nominees for the MTV EMA 2023 had already been released. Several Brazilians are on the list, including Anitta, Luísa Sonza, Manu Gavassi, Anavitória, Kevin O Chris and Matuê.
Furthermore, among the nominated artists, 26 are on the European award list for the first time, including Jung Kook, from the band BTS, with three nominations (it is the first time he competes for the MTV EMA solo). Central Cee, FLO, Ice Spice, PinkPantheress also compete in three categories. Asake, Coi Leray, Metro Boomin, NewJeans, Peso Feather and Reneé Rapp won two nominations each.
War between Israel and Hamas
The Islamic group Hamas bombed Israel on October 7, leaving hundreds dead. The attack was considered one of the biggest in recent years. When assuming the offensive, Hamas stated that it would be the beginning of an action to seize territory.
The tension between Israel and Palestine, a mixture of politics and religion, has been going on for more than 70 years and has left thousands dead on both sides.
