Multinationals are interested in the future industrial park of the Intermodal ‘threatened’ by the Consell

The malaise of the industry and of various administrations at the reduction of the Generalitat Valenciana to the reserve of industrial land together with the future intermodal station in the port of Castellón is not trivial. Despite the fact that the logistics park to be located in the area has yet to be defined – it should be noted that the Castellón General Plan has not yet been approved – business sources of all solvency have confirmed to this newspaper that there is some multinational specialized in industry that has shown interest in locating in this reserve.

Among other companies, a multinational expert in the manufacture and distribution of batteries -whose name has not transcended due to prudence- he has communicated since he considers the Castellón industrial park as an ideal location to strengthen its connection with all of Europe -exports production to the whole world-. It is not the only alternative that it contemplates, but it has recognized the Castellón business fabric of its interest in the capital of La Plana, taking into account that the intermodal station will become an ambitious link with the European continent and, ultimately, an open door to everyone.

But not everything is rosy. In the same way that the interest of this multinational has been confirmed, the same sources consulted by this newspaper point to the disappointment that will flourish if the restrictions on industrial land proposed by the Generalitat Valenciana finally take shape.  «Despite the intermodal station makes us one of the most interesting options in the Mediterranean for companies to improve their connection with customers around the worldWe know that if the reservation is cut, just as they have shown interest, they will abandon the idea of coming here. Nobody wants to be located in a polygon that will be born small., argue the same sources. Thus, they show that the attraction that Castellón awakens in these companies is in serious danger if the Consell’s ‘bite’ becomes a reality.

And the fact is that the Generalitat Valenciana urged the Castellón City Council to cut the initial reserve by more than 885,000 square meters, 2.7 million square meters, finally going to 1.8 million. It did so through the Strategic Environmental and Territorial Declaration (DATE), whose modifications must be incorporated into the General Plan of the capital of La Plana. A document that will govern the urban development of the city in the next 20 years.

Business sources clarify that the intermodal station will make Castellón one of the best scenarios for companies to locate a European connection hub there. TO”Together with Turkey, the countries that face the Mediterranean are the best to host this hub. That is why they opt for Castellón in some cases », they say. Likewise, investment funds have been interested in this next logistics park in the Valencian Community.  «But the problem with investment funds is that if there is no legal security, they do not take the step forward to invest in the land », they clarify.

This is why different voices aim to return the proposed industrial land reserve to the original state and some even demand more square meters.

The Generalitat insists that the initial approach incurs in the  «strangulation of the green infrastructure» and in the affectation of some species. Before thisSources consulted argue that the environmental interest can marry “perfectly” with the industrial one.

pspv addresses the allegations with the Port

Representatives of the Municipal Socialist Group of the Castellón City Council held on Monday a meeting with the president of the Port Authority, Rafa Simó, to address strategic issues for the future between the city and the port such as the need to increase the industrial and logistical land and the improved access, among other issues. The meeting was attended by the Socialist councilors Josà © Luis Lopez, Mary Carmen Ribera, Omar Braina, Jorge Ribes and Isabel Granero.

López highlighted the need to present allegations to the Territorial Action Plan (PAT) to recover logistical land after the forced reduction of industrial land in the vicinity of the logistics platform to adapt the General Plan of Castelló to the Environmental and Territorial Strategic Declaration (DATE).  «It is our intention to present allegations to increase industrial land and increase the ability to attract investment, has indicated Lopez.

On the other hand, the meeting discussed the project of the fire station in Grau. In this sense, López indicated that improvements are being studied for the reopening of the park in the port area.
