‘Multiple fatalities’: Planes collide at US airport, officials say

Authorities in the United States confirmed that there were “multiple fatalities” after two planes collided and crashed over Watsonville Municipal Airport in California on Thursday, the city’s Fire Division Chief Rudy Lopez said. The CNN .

A single-engine Cessna 152 and a twin-engine Cessna 340 collided during landing at the airport, according to a statement from the Federal Aviation Administration. One person was aboard the Cessna 152 and two people were aboard the Cessna 340, the FAA statement said.

No one was injured on the ground, the FAA added.

The report arrived just before 3 pm (local time), according to a Twitter post from the city, which added that “various agencies” were reporting the incident.

The town of Watsonville is about an hour south of San Jose.

Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident, the FAA said in a statement. In a post on Twitter, the NTSB confirmed that it was investigating the mid-air collision.

It is unclear what caused the two planes to collide.
