The main names in national music will be celebrated on Tuesday (3) during the 31st edition of the Multishow Awards. The ceremony takes place at Riocentro, located in the west of Rio de Janeiro, starting at 8:45 pm.
Responsible for rewarding names like Fat Family, Pitty, Los Hermanos and Luan Santana, the Newcomer of the Year category will, once again, crown the trajectory of a great talent on the rise in Brazil. In recent years, all the names that have won the trophy have consolidated their careers, with emphasis on Liniker, Baco Exu from Blues, Marina Sena, Duda Beat and Ana Castela.
This year, this year’s list of nominees ranges from country music to rap and features Jota.pê, a big favorite for the trophy after leaving the 2024 Latin Grammy ceremony with three awards. Discover the six names competing for the award below:
Duchess
Bahian from the city of Feira de Santana, Duquesa is a 24-year-old rap and R&B singer who is signed to Boogie Naipe, rapper Mano Brown’s record label. In the last two years, she has broken through with the albums “Taurus” and “Taurus, Vol. 2” and with the single “Purple Rain” (with Yunk Vino and Go Dassisti), with which she is nominated for the Urban Music of the Year trophy at the Multishow Awards.
The song has 5.5 million views on YouTube and 14.1 million plays on Spotify.
Grelo
Gabriel De Ângelo, 26, was born in Anápolis, in the interior of Goiás. Before his career as a singer, he had some lyrics re-recorded by big names in the country music scene. “Traumatizei”, by Henrique and Juliano; “Forget Me If You Can”, by Maiara & Maraisa and Marília Mendonça; and “Erro Gostoso”, a hit by Simone Mendes, are some of the main lyrics written by Grelo.
During a fishing trip with composers, selecting the repertoire for the new project, Henrique and Juliano discovered the composer’s talent as a musician, starting to manage his new career. He is also nominated in the categories of Hit of the Year (“Só Fé”) and Arrocha of the Year (“Só Fé” and “De Graça ou Pagando”).
Jota.pê
Born in Osasco, Jota.pê released his first work in 2015, with the album “Crônicas de um Sonhador”. Two years later, at the age of 24, he participated in the reality show The Voice Brasil, on TV Globo, where he participated on the Lulu Santos team.
The following year, after several performances in Brazil, the singer went on his first tour of Europe, with all shows sold out. In March this year, he released his second album “Se Meu Peito Fosse O Mundo”, featuring Xênia França and Gilsons. It competes for the awards for Album of the Year (“Se Meu Peito Fosse O Mundo”) and MPB of the Year (“Feito a Maré”, with Gilsons; and “Ouro Marrom”).
The Garotins
Anchietx, Cupertino and Leo Guima form the trio Os Garotin, which broke out this year with the album “Os Garotin de São Gonçalo”. In addition to participating in Rock in Rio, they also received three nominations for the Latin Grammy and came away with the award for Best Contemporary Pop Album in the Portuguese Language, beating Iza, Jão, Melly and Luísa Sonza.
Together for a year, Os Garotin relies on a mix of different rhythms, between Brazilian and foreign, to compose their music.
Yago Oproprio
Directly from the East Zone of São Paulo and with a childhood spent in Venezuela, Yago Oproprio is yet another representative of the rap scene. After breaking through with “Imprevisto” in 2022, he brought the EP “O Inquilino” in 2023 and the album “Oproprio” this year.
In addition to the album released by Som Livre, Yago also presented a 10-minute film that serves as a clip for three different songs. He is also up for awards for TVZ Clip of the Year (“La Noche”), Cover of the Year (“Oproprio”) and Urban Song of the Year (“La Noche”).
Zaynara
Zaynara started to gain prominence on social media at the beginning of the year, based on videos in which she sings her track “Quem Manda em Mim”, showing that she is one of the representatives of beat melody. The track was even re-recorded with Pabllo Vittar in a version that competes for the Brega of the Year award.
“É Beat Melody” was released by her in 2022 and the Pará native already has a collaboration with Joelma, one of the main names in Pará music.
