The former municipal secretary of Guarujá (SP), Thiago Felipe de Souza Avanci, who killed his mother and dog before committing suicide on Tuesday (17), on the coast of São Paulo, was also in the police’s sights. He is being investigated for having committed rapes against his nephew, a minor with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
The Women’s Defense Department (DDM) in Santos is investigating sexual abuse that Thiago’s nephew is said to have suffered. The investigation is believed to have advanced after a police report was filed last week.
On Tuesday, Civil Police officers went to the former secretary’s house and seized items for questioning. On the same day, Thiago was summoned to provide clarification at the Guarujá DDM – the city where Thiago, Sueli (his mother) and his nephew (a rape victim) lived – and was released after giving his statement. At the police station, Thiago handed over a revolver that was in his possession.
Murders and suicide

The police report states that, given new information reported by Thiago’s brother, Carlos Maurício de Souza Avanci, the agents returned to Thiago and Sueli’s residence.
Police found Sueli Nastri dead and lying on the bed with a gunshot wound to the right side of her head. The family dog was lying next to Sueli, unharmed. The dog is believed to have been poisoned.
Thiago Felipe de Souza Avanci was found lying face up next to the bed. He shot himself in the head with a .38 caliber revolver.
Relationship with ASD
In a post on LinkedIn, in April of this year, Thiago talks about his nephew who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
In the post, he says that he has “personal experience with a close family member who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).” He then reports that “in the last year, I have been through some difficult times (thanks to the friends who supported me) with this beloved family member, whose afflictions are intensified by ASD.” According to the investigation by CNN, the nephew was reportedly being a victim of sexual abuse during this exact period.
