The mayors of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Nunes (MDB) and Eduardo Paes (PSD), respectively, will meet virtually, this Friday (21), at 7 pm, to decide on a possible change in the date of Carnival. .
The parades of the samba schools of the São Paulo special group are currently scheduled for February 25th and 26th. In Rio, it will be on the 27th and 28th of the same month.
“From the beginning, it was agreed that we would make a joint decision. There will be no different scenario in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Today’s meeting will be used for the surveillance of cities to monitor the situation today. It’s a working meeting”, Ricardo Nunes told CNN.
Both cities have already canceled the street Carnival, at the beginning of January, due to the advance of the Ômicron variant of the coronavirus.
The parades in the sambadromes of Anhembi and Marquês de Sapucaí are scheduled to take place upon presentation of proof of vaccination against Covid-19 and sanitary measures.
