Murder on the Nile has (finally) a release date

We feared that, partly due to the continuous delays caused by the pandemic and partly due to the scandal involving the protagonist Armie Hammer, who ended up in the eye of the storm for an accusation of sexual violence that continues to hang over his head, not we would never have seen it, but, luckily, we have been proved wrong. Murder on the Nile, the film directed by Kenneth Branagh and stopped at the starting line for the past two years, will be released in theaters on February 10, 2022, involving the audience in an adventure drawn from one of Agatha Christie’s closest thrillers later Murder on the Orient Express, already transposed from Branagh four years ago.

History, once again, will see it at the forefront he detective Hercule Poirot, also played by Branagh, for the resolution of a seemingly impossible case. Linnet Ridgeway (Gal Gadot) is a beautiful and wealthy heiress who has just married the boyfriend (Armie Hammer) of her best friend Jacqueline de Bellefort (Emma Mackey, the protagonist of Sex Education). For their honeymoon, the newlyweds decide to take a cruise on the Nile on which, by chance, Poirot also travels. One evening, Jacqueline breaks into the boat and shoots her ex-boyfriend, injuring him in the leg. Shocked by her gesture and in the throes of a nervous breakdown, the woman is sedated with a powerful dose of morphine that leaves her unconscious all night. The next morning, Linnet Ridgeway’s lifeless body is discovered but, if Jacqueline could not have been, who would have been the culprit?

Beyond the welcome, it is nice that a film with such a long gestation as Murder on the Nile can finally see the light, even if the shadows accompanying its release, including the Hammer scandal, don’t seem to go away too soon. “What happened is a personal and private matter of which I am unaware and which is going through a phase that must be respected. These are very serious issues that need to be addressed very seriously, ”Branagh said of the actor. In the cast, in addition to Hammer, Gadot and Mackey, there are also Rose Leslie, Annette Clear e Sophie Okonedo.
