O Zayed National Museum which is expected to opening for 2025 has structures in the architectural project that resemble wings. The steel structure will function — in addition to design forms — as sustainable thermal “chimneys”.
The building serves as a memorial to Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, former president and one of the architects of the United Arab Emirates. He is known, among other things, for always expressing his love for nature.
The Museum is located in the Saadiyat cultural district of Abu Dhabi, home to the Natural History Museum, the Louvre and Guggenheim Abhu Dhabi, the Abrahamic Family House and the Berklee Abu Dhabi Center.
The building’s “wings” support the concept of sustainability that the project, designed by the architectural firm Foster + Partners, pursues. Made up of five steel structures, the heat at the top of the towers pulls hot air out of the museum, cooling its interior.

Also to ventilate the building, fresh air from outside will be drawn in through underground cooling pipes and then released into the main lobby.
The light inside the museum will be natural, coming from openings in the structure.
The collection will feature objects that tell the country’s history, including the fossil of a rudist mollusk — an ancient sea creature — from 70 million years ago. In addition, there will be items that show evidence of the first humans and depict their evolution in the region.
