Mutirão renegotiated 1.7 million overdue debts in March, points out Central Bank

Amid the record indebtedness of Brazilian families, the National Task Force for Negotiation and Financial Guidance in March made it possible to renegotiate 1.7 million debts in arrears, the Central Bank reported this Friday, 6th. The action, which took place from March 7 to 31, was carried out in partnership with the Brazilian Federation of Banks (Febraban), the National Consumer Secretariat and Procons across the country.

According to the BC, compared to February 2022, the increase was 178% in the demand for negotiations. Regarding the collective effort held in November 2021, which lasted 30 days, the same volume of contracts was renegotiated.

Debts in arrears on credit cards, overdrafts and other types of credit were negotiated without the assignment of assets given as collateral, such as vehicles, motorcycles and real estate. The BC also informed that the new round of negotiation had the participation of more than 160 banks and financial institutions.

The agency highlighted that the focus on financial education was once again a differential of the initiative.

According to the BC, an exclusive page on the Mutirão helped citizens to prepare for the negotiation, with information on how to find out what their debts are, using the BC Registrato system, when it is worth participating in the collective effort and how much of the budget can be for the payment of debts at the time of negotiation, for example.

The page also provided access to the new financial education platform Meu Bolso em Dia, which has specific learning paths for people who want to renegotiate their debts.
