“My speeches were horrible”, reflects Fernanda about controversies on BBB24

Fernanda Bande, former BBB24 participant, opened up about the repercussions of some of her speeches and attitudes within the reality show from Rede Globo.

In an interview with Quem after her elimination, the 32-year-old confectioner reflected on what would you do differently within the program.

“I would worry much more about what I say. I know it's not an excuse, but I came from a not very active life, I just stayed at home, taking care of my son and baking cakes. So, I didn't interact with people, I didn't go out, the agendas and speeches or things that could sound wrong weren't a big concern”, explained Fernanda.

Before leaving the most watched house in Brazil, some of the Niteroi native's speeches generated a buzz on the web, even resulting in accusations of ableism after she referred to Beatriz as “dodói” and jokingly mentioned the “lack of a chromosome”.

Fernanda is the mother of Marcelo, aged 11, diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Laura, aged 5, and admitted to being aware of the seriousness of the statements that were considered discriminatory against people with disabilities.

“I stopped there in the 90s, my family has a more corrupt language, we offend each other when joking, there is sarcasm. Not that this is right, but it was the reality I lived. I came out of a bubble into the world and I wasn't prepared. I hurt a lot of people, but I also hurt a lot of people by being myself,” she said.

“I don't deny to the world that I wasn't aware of the issue, I had to do my best to work and still be able to support myself. I raised Celo alone and Laura has his father, but it was still heavy for me. I just lived and went, non-stop,” she continued.
Now, armed with information and awareness, Fernanda says she is determined to make a difference.

“I understand my responsibility, I just haven’t learned how to work with it yet. My lines were horrible , but now I know how much it can really hurt someone. That is the question. I didn’t know the depth of this, what triggers they can generate”, declared the sister.

“Now they are teaching me and I know this is terrible. Now I'm thinking, 'Oh my God. What the f*** was I doing? I'm open to learning and I'm not going to crucify myself on this point. I was being a completely ignorant person and I am willing to change the scenario if necessary”, he concluded.
