Myanmar: 12 dead among them and a 13-year-old from the security forces

Myanmar (Burma) security forces have killed at least 12 people today in Rangoon, Mandalay and other cities across the country, including a 13-year-old boy and a Buddhist monk.

The political disobedience movement launched by groups of public officials, such as doctors and educators, has turned into a general strike in Myanmar that has paralyzed many sectors of the economy, stripping the military junta of management of key areas of public life.

More than 70 people have been killed in protests against the coup, according to the Association of Political Prisoners.

The United States, India, Australia and Japan have pledged to work together to restore democracy in Burma. US President Joe Biden had teleconferences with his counterparts from the three countries. The four leaders reiterated their commitment to regional security.
