Myanmar’s military junta announced a temporary ceasefire in operations against armed guerrilla organizations in the wake of last week’s devastating earthquake. The ceasefire will come into force today and will last until April 22, the junta announced this evening (local time), according to MRTV state television. The ceasefire is “aimed at accelerating relief and reconstruction efforts and maintaining peace and stability” after Friday’s earthquake, the statement said. At the same time it was announced that General Mini Aung Hlating, the leader of the junta, will go to Thailand tomorrow Thursday for a regional summit with mainly southern Asia countries. The General will inform the leaders of these countries in Bangkok about Myanmar’s situation after the earthquake.
