Myanmar’s ambassador to China died on Sunday, according to diplomatic sources, the fourth ambassador to the country to die in a year.
Ambassador U Myo Thant Pae was last seen on Saturday when he was meeting with an official in the southwestern Chinese province of Yunnan, which neighbors Myanmar, according to local media.
Three diplomatic sources briefed on the matter told Reuters news agency that the ambassador died on Sunday while traveling to Yunnan.
According to diplomats and a Myanmar media report, the cause of his death is believed to be a heart attack.
The Myanmar embassy did not immediately respond when asked by Reuters to comment on the report.
U Myo Thant Pe was named ambassador to China in late 2019. He remained in the position after the military regime took power on 1 February 2021.
