Her ambassador MyanmarU Mio Tan Pe in China died yesterday Sunday (7/8). According to diplomatic imgs, this is the fourth ambassador to the country who has passed away within a year.
Ambassador U Myo Thant Pae was last seen on Saturday (6/8), when he met with an official in southwestern China’s Yunnan province, which neighbors Myanmar, according to local media.
Three diplomatic imgs briefed on the matter told the Reuters news agency that the ambassador died yesterday, Sunday, while traveling to Yunnan.
According to diplomats and a Myanmar media report, his cause of death is believed to have been a heart attack.
The Myanmar embassy did not immediately respond when Reuters asked for comment on the report.
U Myo Tad Pe, as reported by the Athens News Agency, named ambassador to China in late 2019. He remained in office after the military regime took power on 1 February 2021.
Within a year, three more foreign ambassadors died
Three other foreign ambassadors to China have died in the past year.
Germany’s ambassador Jan Hecker, 54, died in September, less than two weeks after taking up the post.
Ukrainian Ambassador Serhii Kamyshev, 65, died in February while on or had just completed a visit to a Winter Olympics facility.
Philippine ambassador Jose Santiago “Chito” Santa Romana, 74, died while in quarantine in Anhui province (east) in April.
