Excavations at the Archaeological Site of Checua, near Bogota, Colombia, brought to light the relics of hunter-gathers, whose DNA does not match any known native population of today’s region. Analyzing ancient DNA by 21 people who lived on the Bogota Plateau between 6,000 and 500 years ago, the researchers managed to reconstitute a rare genetic time line for almost six millennia.
