A secluded, picturesque village in Turkey has caused discussions in medical circles, as more than half of its inhabitants are deaf. Giokova, a magnificent village with turquoise waters and imposing mountains, is about 720 kilometers from Constantinople and hosts just 120 inhabitants. However, the disability rate is so high that sign language has been established as the basic means of communication. Some attribute the abnormally increased deafness in incest, as the new residents in the village are extremely few. Others believe that Giokova residents have been poisoned by chronic exposure to infected water, according to the Mirror.
