Mystery in a village in Turkey – the majority of residents are deaf

Mystery prevails in the village of Giokova, Turkey, which belongs to the municipality of Alatsam in Samsun, where the majority of the inhabitants are deaf. The village is about 40 kilometers from the center of Alatsam and 120 kilometers from the center of Samsun, and has become known for the unusually high number of residents with disabilities. According to testimonies, even the newborn children of the village suffer from the same disabilities. The inhabitants of the village have learned to communicate through sign language, while visitors face difficulties in communication.
