The 49-year-old and Stanesco were arrested in August 2022 for scam at the expense of Sabine Boghici’s mother, Genevieve Boghiciamounting to 148.8 million dollars in art, jewelry and money.
Investigators said Sabine conspired against her mother in 2020 and hired a woman who approached her and told her a family member was on the verge of death. So they convinced the woman to pay to keep her daughter alive. Authorities discovered that Sabine and her accomplices stole 16 paintings signed by Tarsila do Amaral and Emiliano Di Calvacanti worth $145 million, jewelry worth $1 million and $2.8 million in cash, reports New York Post.
According to police chief Gilberto Ribeiro, who led the investigation, Sabine and her wife claimed that “the paintings had the evil eye, something negative that they had to pray about.” “They kept taking them and the old woman saw it but she couldn’t refuse. She was completely subdued at the time,” he said.

Police video, taken during a raid, showed authorities discovering several works under a bed, including Amaral’s “Sol Poente” (1929). “Wow! Look who’s here!” a female officer exclaimed as she removed the painting’s bubble wrap.
The court granted parole of March.
Under the terms of her release, she was not allowed to travel outside Rio de Janeiro for more than 10 days and had to surrender her passport. She was also banned from contacting her mother and witnesses and had to stay 1,600 meters away from her mother.
