His police Texas searches for answers surrounding the death of a woman whose body was found burned on the side of a street in an upscale Austin neighborhood. The body of Melissa Davis, 33, was found by firefighters who responded to calls about a fire on the morning of September 29.
Officers discovered a lighter in the area, according to local media outlet KXAN. A K-9 police dog was called to the scene and found a butcher knife, officials said.
Austin police believe “the knife was placed with the deceased in an attempt to destroy evidence by fire.”
However, the autopsy showed that Davis did not have any visible trauma to her body or stab wounds and concluded that she had been burned alive.
With little evidence, police issued a search notice for Davis’ missing car, a blue 2016 Toyota 4Runner with Texas license plate number KYV3765.
Although no suspect is yet in custody, friends and family remain hopeful that justice will be served for Davis, who disappeared after a trip to the local Apple store to get her phone fixed.
Ellie Simmons, who described Davis as a “soulmate,” said her friend was a free spirit who enjoyed traveling with friends. “We actually had dreams with one of our other friends to start a hostel in Costa Rica and have an art station,” Simmons told KVUE. “She loved art.”
The Austin Police Department would not comment on the case, but said the investigation remains ongoing. There is currently a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
