N. Anastasiadis in S. Arabia tomorrow

The latest developments, as unfolding in the last 24 hours after the Russian military invasion of Ukraine, but also the important geostrategic role of Cyprus in the wider Eastern Mediterranean region will be on the agenda of the contacts that the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos will have next week. Tomorrow, Monday, President Anastasiadis will travel to Saudi Arabia for a scheduled official visit, while next Wednesday he will receive Israeli President Isaac Herzog in Nicosia.

According to a written statement by the Director of the Press Office of President Anastasiadis, Andreas Iosif, the role of Cyprus in the international political scene as a member of the European Union, the efforts it makes to promote international legitimacy and the initiatives it is developing in this direction will be discussed at the meetings of President Anastasiadis, who will also inform about the provocative actions of Turkey in the region, the efforts made by the Greek Cypriot side for the resumption of the negotiation process and the Confidence Building Measures proposed by the whole process.

On March 1, President Anastasiadis will be in Saudi Arabia. Cyprus and Saudi Arabia look forward to further developing their already close ties.

The Republic of Cyprus and Saudi Arabia are strengthening their bilateral relations, especially in the fields of foreign policy, security, energy and environment, tourism, trade and investment.

On March 2, Israeli President Isaac Herzog will pay a visit to Cyprus. The importance of the Israeli President’s visit is given due to the close cooperation that Cyprus has with Israel. The two leaders are expected to review the excellent relationship and cooperation between Cyprus and Israel, both bilaterally and trilaterally. Furthermore, current developments at international level and in the Eastern Mediterranean, issues related to the energy sector and the Cyprus issue, are expected to be at the center of the consultations between the two parties.

Important are the meetings of the Council of Ministers next Thursday morning, but also of the National Council in the afternoon of the same day. The President’s proposal for Confidence-Building Measures, as well as the efforts to curb Turkish intransigence in order to restart the negotiations for the settlement of the Cyprus problem will be discussed at the meeting with the leaders of the political parties.
