N. Androulakis: The schools of the community are the ambassadors of the Greek language and culture

The president of PASOK-Movement of Change, Nikos Androulakis, had a meeting with Christos Adamopoulos, General Director of the “Socrates-Demosthenes” School of the Greek Community of Greater Montreal, today at the premises of the Greek school.

Mr. Androulakis congratulated the management of the school for their great work, pointing out that “for us, these schools are the most important ambassadors of our culture and language. We must give the opportunity to children of Greek origin as well as to any other interested to be able to approach Greece through tradition, language and culture”.

Referring to the educational programs of visiting students from the diaspora in Greece, Nikos Androulakis emphasized that “it is very important that the children see first hand the value of learning the Greek language, getting to know the theater, the culture and finding elements that will help them make them feel a direct correlation with their studies”, while he pledged to exert relevant pressure on the relevant ministries of Greece to strengthen and enrich the programs in question.

At the same time, Christos Adamopoulos informed the president of PASOK-Movement of Change about the bureaucratic problems that are delaying the approval of applications for secondment of teachers from Greece to Canada, with Nikos Androulakis emphasizing:

“The crucial thing is to make a bilateral agreement between Canada and Greece so that this time is greatly reduced and the teachers who want to come here do not enter into an adventure. Once I return, we will write a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, see how we can pressure the government to create a formula. Because this help is too big for you.”

In closing, the president of PASOK-Movement of Change thanked the General Director of “Socrates-Demosthenis” for the hospitality and, shortly before touring the school’s grounds, said that “we are very proud of the work you are doing. Whatever happens , to inform us and find solutions. We are on your side”, while he did not fail to mention that it is important to “cultivate a relationship of synchronization with other expatriate communities, from all over the world”.
