Nikos Androulakis, speaking in high tones in the afternoon at PASOK-KINAL’s K.O., to members of the Political Council and party officials, launched a direct attack on the government and laid all the blame on K. Mitsotakis, whom he invited, to tomorrow morning order debate, in the Parliament, to tell the whole truth for what reasons the EYP was monitoring him. “I publicly call on Mr. Mitsotakis to say tomorrow why I was a public risk. Tomorrow he must tell the whole truth to the Greek people,” said the president of PASOK – KINAL and added: “It was a national risk for me to sign the ResqEU project or was it a national danger that I called for an arms embargo on Turkey? And if after all I was such a big risk as an MEP now that I am the president of the third largest party am I not a much bigger risk?”
He claimed that the ND leadership sought to put him and the democratic faction as a political hostage. “By monitoring my phone, they managed to monitor you as well. … It is clear that a parastatal mechanism, starting from Maximos, wanted a PASOK hostage, a PASOK of their own hands. Their plan failed miserably,” Mr. Androulakis said specifically , applauded by party officials and MPs. “Would a more liberal party team up with far-right blobs to attack the Democratic Party?” asked Mr. Androulakis.
The president of PASOK-KINAL stated that he is interested in the legality and institutional investigation of the case: “From the first moment I made it clear that the attempt to trap my mobile phone with the Predator and also the unconstitutional surveillance of me by the EYP, is not only a personal issue, but it is a Democracy issue.
That is why I insist and we will all insist together like a fist in the institutional treatment of this whole dark case. I am not interested in any political gain. I am interested in the Greek people knowing the absolute truth”.
Extension of examination only for specific cases
He specified the position of PASOK-Movement for Change, regarding the Commission of Inquiry and the issues it is asked to examine, saying that PASOK wishes to investigate specific cases with documented evidence, “such as our case concerning the government of the era of the New Democracy or the KKE which concerns both the New Democracy government and the era of the SYRIZA – ANEL co-government. We want an Inquiry Committee that will check documented cases, not an inquiry committee that through the extension of time nothing will be found and all this will be lost the serious issues in an attempt to cover up. ‘Well, specific cases whatever government they concern, but specific cases,’ he said.
He asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, to take a position on what was heard about requests from foreign embassies for his monitoring. “If I had not been an MEP and if this faction had not established the independent authorities today we would not know anything about this sick case. It is time for the truth without any more false leaks. Without the ones denied by the embassies of Armenia and Ukraine” pointed out.
Mr. Androulakis tried to delineate the tactics followed by SYRIZA saying that “the rapid revelations do not bring me closer to Mr. Tsipras, as you want to advertise Mr. Mitsotakis. Quite the opposite. They reveal how similar your own practices are with those of Mr. Tsipras and Mr. Kammenos Until the day before yesterday I was the willing partner of Mr. Mitsotakis for SYRIZA.
What does Mr. Tsipras have to say when it was proved that the main target of this parastatal mechanism was me and our faction. Delusions again?
Of course, now the narrative has been reversed. Until you reveal them willing partners of Mr. Mitsotakis. Now they are willing partners of Mr. Tsipras”, emphasized Nikos Androulakis.
He pointed out how September 21 marks a year since he sent the infected message to his cellphone asking to check the trail on the cellphone antenna left by the phone number of the woman whose phone was used to send what he said was the “bait message.” as this element will be lost in a few days as experts say. “You need to know this in order to act quickly. There is no need to miss a very critical element in this case,” he added.
In closing, to applause, he invited all citizens beyond the party barriers “to a struggle of transparency, meritocracy, respect for human rights, which makes Greece a normal European country. And not a finger-pointing country as Mr. Mitsotakis succeeded today.
That is why this fight is worth fighting together in the next period. A fight for dignity, honor, principles.
For us and our children and your grandchildren. United Democratic Party can do it. And it can create new ones
conditions that will change page. For a better future of national dignity and social justice for all Greek women and men”.
Mr. Androulakis also spoke about the changes proposed by PASOK for the EYP
– To repeal the provision on the subordination of the EYP to the prime minister’s office. From the first moves of Mr. Mitsotakis.
– To strengthen the parliamentary control of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, through the Committee on Institutions and Transparency, by establishing special powers and procedures for audits and hearings of its officials.
– To make the auditing role of the currently understaffed ADAE essential and effective, with its institutional shielding, the increase of its funding and the immediate completion of the digitization of all the provisions on lifting confidentiality so that they can be audited retroactively.
– That the current unacceptable legislative regime be amended, and that all provisions on the lifting of confidentiality include the full details of all persons concerned with full justification, as required by the Constitution.
No “secret” or “confidential” provision henceforth without a named and specifically reasoned judicial will.
