N. Dendias for H. Akar: Greece is not drawn into escalation, does not seek rhetorical escalation

“The Greek government has a stable position: it is not drawn into escalation, it does not seek rhetorical aggravation, it does not believe in this way of dealing with things,” said Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, in his statements to journalists in Zagreb, who were asked about the Turk’s statements Minister of Defense.

“Greece has a clear understanding based on International Law, International Law of the Sea, European and global values, peace and stability”, underlined Mr. Dendias.

“We are not going to slip by being provoked into a rhetorical escalation. These things do not concern us. They belong to other centuries, to other times, to perceptions of empires that do not touch us,” he stressed.

Mr. Dendias expressed his pleasure to be in Zagreb, invited by the Croatian Foreign Minister, to address the Summit of Ambassadors, Consuls General and Military Attaches.

As he mentioned, his presence in Zagreb and the subsequent hearing by the Croatian President shows the close relations between Greece and Croatia.

“We are proud because this year we are celebrating 30 years of diplomatic relations between our two countries, a success story, what is called a “success story”, in Europe and the Balkans,” he noted.

“With Croatia we strive together for peace and stability in the Western Balkans, to bring the Western Balkans into the European family. We are partners and friends in the EU, NATO, EUMED9. And this year we welcome Croatia to the Eurozone as well and we hope quickly and in the Schengen area,” he added.

“Croatia is a country with which we face together and in a similar direction, with a shared understanding of the great challenges that our region and humanity face,” he concluded.
