“Greece, as a strong supporter of democracy as a global public good and a strong advocate of the universal, indivisible and interconnected nature of all human rights, considers poverty an” enemy “of both values ​​and makes serious efforts to” characteristically Mr. Dendias.

“It does this by promoting equal opportunities and participation in society, as well as encouraging dialogue, transparency and accountability in all aspects of life,” he said, adding that these efforts have never stopped during of the pandemic and “democracy and its institutions continued to function and perform, for the benefit of the Greek people as a whole.”

As Mr. Dendias pointed out, “the debate on human rights and poverty has been revived for the last 30 years, especially in conjunction with the rising populism and the current COVID-19 pandemic, which are widening inequalities” and stressed that “the consequent insecurity threatens good governance and democracy itself. ”

The Foreign Minister stressed the urgent need to strengthen international cooperation and partnerships on a global scale for the rapid implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

He pointed out that Greece is working diligently on programs aimed at alleviating inequalities that undermine individual, political, as well as economic and social rights.

In particular, he mentioned the national strategy for social inclusion and poverty reduction developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, while recalling that four other major policy documents have been approved:

– The first National Action Plan for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

– The first National Action Plan against Racism and Intolerance

– The first National Action Plan for the Rights of the Child

– The National Action Plan for Gender Equality

In addition, a new Strategy and Operational Action Plan for Roma Integration is already being developed.
