Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias will pay a visit to Japan from Tuesday, April 12 to Wednesday, April 13. In the context of the close cooperation between Greece and Japan, the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs follows the First Consultations of the Legal Services on Maritime Law (December 2021) and the Fourth Political Consultations (March 2022) of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries.
During his stay in Tokyo, the Foreign Minister will meet on Wednesday with his Japanese counterpart Hayashi Yoshimasa, in the context of enlarged talks between the two delegations. The two ministers are expected to make joint statements to the press at around 07:40 Greek time, after which a working lunch will take place.
Talks between the Foreign Minister and his Japanese counterpart are expected to focus on further promoting bilateral relations in a wide range of areas, EU-Japan relations, the situation in Ukraine after the Russian invasion, and developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Indo-Pacific. , as stated in a statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In addition, they are expected to cover the joint commitment of the two countries to international law – including the Law of the Sea – and coordination within the UN, in view of the candidacies of the two countries as non-permanent members of the Security Council (2023-2024 for Japan and 2025-2026 for Greece).
The Minister of Foreign Affairs will also have a meeting on April 13 with the President (and former Minister of Foreign Affairs), Taro Kono and members of the Japanese-Greek Friendship Group of the Parliament of Japan.
Finally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will meet, on the same day, the President and members of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
