The US President’s special climate envoy, John Kerry, was received today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias.
During the meeting, they had a fruitful discussion on the strengthening of Greece-US cooperation on the climate and the protection of the marine environment, the organization by Greece of the International Conference “Our Ocean Conference” in 2024 and the wider developments in the Eastern Mediterranean, according to a relevant post by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Twitter.
In recognition of the support of T. Kerry’s ancestor, Th. Lindall Winthrop, in the Greek Revolution and as a sign of the long-term Greek-American friendship, Mr. Dendias offered the special envoy of the American President for Climate, a copy of a letter from Ioannis Kapodistrias.
The letter of the first governor of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, written in 1828, was addressed to the Philhellenic Society of New York, and expressed the gratitude of the Greek people for the humanitarian aid provided by the USA, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on twitter.
