Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias had a long discussion with the OSCE Secretary General, Helga Schmidt, on the issues concerning Mariupol and the security of the Greek consul who is currently hosted at the OSCE building in Mariupol. In a statement after the meeting, the Foreign Minister said that “we will do everything we can to bring the Greek consul safe, back to Greece.”
On this occasion, he also expressed his deep gratitude to the Greek diplomats who, at the risk of their lives, tried to remove Greek citizens and expatriates from Ukraine, at this extremely difficult time, as he pointed out.
Referring to the discussion with the OSCE Secretary General, Nikos Dendias noted that they conducted an overview of the extremely difficult and unpleasant situation. “The Russian invasion has created huge problems. And we discussed how we can deal with some aspects of them,” he said.
Asked about yesterday’s meeting in London with his British counterpart, Liz Tras, the Foreign Minister pointed out that the United Kingdom, although outside the European Union, remains a very important geopolitical player. “It was the fourth time I had met with a British Foreign Secretary, in this case Liz Trass, for almost three years as Greek Foreign Minister. This time we met under the Russian-led invasion of Ukraine and discussed the huge issues.
