N.Filis: Negligence or concealment in the case of the professor who is allegedly involved in smelly cases?

The question whether there was “negligence or concealment” by the Ministry of Education regarding the case of the professor “who is allegedly involved in bad cases”, Nikos Filis raises.

In a statement entitled: “Negligence or cover-up. For what purpose?”, The Head of Education of SYRIZA-PS, Nikos Filis states that “The Ministry of Education did not exercise its responsibility after the disciplinary action against the teacher who is allegedly involved in bad cases. In other words, it did not remove him from his duties until the completion of the disciplinary control.” At the same time, Mr. Filis emphasizes that “the attack on the professor (who should be out of class) is now being used by the Mitsotakis government to promote its plans for the university police”.

The statement of the Head of Education of SYRIZA in detail:

At noon, the Deputy Minister of Education, Mr. Syrigos, claimed in an ERT show where we talked, that he does not remember having issued a circular reminding the rector’s authorities of their obligation (PD 160/2008, no. 26, par. 1) to inform the minister , when faculty members are referred to the Disciplinary Board.

I am now publishing the … forgotten document, dated April 27, 2021 and of course its signature. Of course, if his memory betrayed him for a moment, I understand. This is not a point of opposition. Elsewhere is the most serious political issue: While apparently the Rector’s Office of the Athens University of Economics, according to the law and the document of Syrigos, forwarded to the ministry the disciplinary action against the professor who is allegedly involved in bad cases, the Ministry of Education did not its competence. In other words, he did not resign from his duties until the completion of the disciplinary control.

The Minister was therefore exposed once again. If she simply neglected to perform her legal duty, it is already a very serious blow. The relentless question, however, is whether it was her choice to cover the professor – a government “friend” who, among other things, has been appointed by the New Democracy government to senior positions in two public bodies?

In any case, the issue has implications. Because the attack on the professor (who should have been out of class) is now being used by the Mitsotakis government to advance its plans for the university police. As he had used the equally unacceptable attack on the rector of OPA, to announce it.

And a postscript: Do not bother to ask the SYRIZA MPs, as Mr. Syrigos did at noon on ERT, if we “condemn the attack”: From the first moment, publicly, as we do for any violent action of this type. That’s why they do not convince anyone. Nor, of course, will we allow the Mitsotakis government, which has completely failed in the critical, pandemic management, to change the agenda as it sees fit – in this case with a little bit of “law and order”.

I quote the relevant provision of Presidential Decree 160/2008 and attach the document of Mr. Syrigos.

“For the members of the Faculty or the Board, the disciplinary action is exercised either by the Rector or President or the acting Rector or President or by their legal deputies in the Institution to which the referred person belongs, or by the Minister Of National Education and Religions through the Rector or President or the Acting Rector or President or their legal deputies. After disciplinary action, the Minister of National Education and Religions, after the opinion of the Senate or Assembly or Assembly or Assembly may decide that the person referred shall abstain from the performance of his duties until a disciplinary decision is rendered. Abstention from office shall be terminated in this case by the issuance of an acquittal or the decision of the it is stated that there is no reason for accusation. Disciplinary proceedings shall not be suspended by the criminal court, unless the council concerned decides otherwise. ”

Attached to the right column “RELATED ARCHIVES” is a document of Mr. Syrigos that the head of Education of SYRIZA-PS quotes in his statement.
