N. Iliopoulos: It is unthinkable to learn from Germany the sending of armor to Ukraine

The SYRIZA-PS spokesperson unleashed harsh criticism against the Mitsotakis government, focusing on foreign policy issues. Nassos Iliopoulos: “It is inconceivable for the German Chancellor to learn about the sending of armor to Ukraine. We do not care if the government says that it would not be hidden. Greek citizens should have known from the beginning, because it is not insignificant “Our country should send military equipment to this region”, he stated characteristically (t / s SKAI) and reminded that “the majority of the Greek people disagree with the sending of military equipment to Ukraine”.

“The country is not a field of Mr. Mitsotakis to make such decisions alone,” said Nassos Iliopoulos.

He also explained that “in SYRIZA-PS we also disagree with the essence of the decision – not only that we were not informed”. “Yes, Greece must support Ukraine, support international law, send humanitarian aid. But we say no to the country’s military involvement. Sending armor poses problems for the security of Greece itself. Because when, for example, the status quo changes “Russia is facing the Turkish provocation in the region, or the Cyprus issue, serious issues arise,” he noted.

Nassos Iliopoulos even denounced the government’s effort
“to convince us that the Germans woke up one morning, went crazy and decided to give us new armor since we will send the old ones to Ukraine, and they will not ask for anything else!”

“This is funny. There is a request in this agreement from Germany to possibly upgrade other armor we have? Is there another obligation for Greece? The government has to give answers. The information must be given to the parliament immediately,” he underlined.

Regarding the Turkish provocation, he said: “We have a provocative Turkey in front of us, which does not respect international law, the law of the sea, and has an active, military involvement in regional conflicts. Let us not lie to ourselves that Turkey “It’s isolated. We are particularly concerned about government negligence. It is not possible for us to have a leak from the Minister of Defense two days ago about hybrid threats.”

“After all, the strategy of the predictable ally that Mr. Mitsotakis is following creates an additional problem. We are now in a strange situation with Iran that we should not have been involved in. We can not afford to open fronts,” he said.

Finally, he criticized K. Mitsotakis that “apart from being a predictable ally, he is also a frightened prime minister, who can not set limits on foreign policy issues or on his internal party political opponents.” “If the name issue with Northern Macedonia had not been resolved, at this moment our neighboring country would have joined NATO with the name ‘Macedonia’ plain,” he concluded.
